Alaverdi Monastery Wine Cellar offers guided wine tours
(standard and premium) to tourists and guests of the monastery.

Important information: Due to the fact that the wine cellar is located on the territory of the monastery, our guest are asked to wear appropriate clothes and keep calm.

Standard wine tour – you will be met at the monastery gate by the local tour guide, who will lead you to the special route around the monastery area. On the way to wine cellar you will see:

small vine museum (with104 different species of grapes);

variety of historical buildings;

archeological finds of ancient wine caller dating back to the 8th century;

ethnographical part and spirits section of renovated wine cellar and

wine shop.

Visitors are asked to keep away from qvevris. Plenty of people, disorder and noise, as well as strong perfume and tobacco aromas can cause damage to winemaking process. Wine is sensitive, alive liquid and it needs peace and quiet. Qvevris must be kept safe from getting dust or little stones/pebbles inside.

Wine tasting will take place on a special degustation area where 3 sorts of monastery wines as well as chacha spirits with Georgian (Kakhetian) traditional bread, walnuts, churchkhela and mineral water will be represented.

In wine shop our guests can purchase monastery wine.

Premium wine tour – You will be met at the monastery gate by the local tour guide, who will lead you to the special route around the monastery area. On the way to wine cellar you will see:

small vine museum (with104 different species of grapes);

variety of historical buildings;

archeological finds of ancient wine caller dating back to the 8th century;

Several sections of rebuilt wine cellar: receiver, classical wine making section, traditional Kakhetian wine making section, ethnographical part, spirits section, wine shop and enoteca.

Wine tasting will take place in a special degustation hall where 3 sorts of monastery wines as well as chacha spirits with Georgian (Kakhetian) traditional bread, walnuts, churchkhela and mineral water will be represented.

In wine shop our guests can purchase monastery wine.

Premium tour duration -1 hour and 30 minutes.

Please note, our tours are available if they are booked about 1 week in advance.

The cost of the tour should be payed min. 3 days in advance.

55 GEL per/person for a group of 21-35 people

Premium tour
